About us

We're the engineers who build it — not a layer of consultants in front of them

Tailored Intelligence is a small New Zealand outfit that builds custom AI into the way a business already works. When you ring, you get the person who writes the code.

  • Based in New Zealand, working with NZ businesses
  • We build and run our own AI platform, not slide decks
  • Runs on our own GPU hardware — your data stays in the country
  • Two engineers, direct numbers, no account manager in between

Why this exists

Most businesses we talk to have had the same experience with AI: plenty of people willing to run a workshop, do a readiness assessment or write a strategy document, and nobody willing to actually build the thing. You end up with a report and the same admin pile you started with.

We started from the other end. We built the software first, put it to work in a real business, and kept fixing it until it held up on a Monday morning with real money moving through it. Everything we offer is something we have already had to make work in production — not a capability we are hoping to learn on your job.

The people you'll actually deal with

There are two of us. Andrew is the founder and builds the AI systems — including Quarvo, the platform that runs a real New Zealand business day to day. Elliot handles automation, integrations, and the unglamorous work of getting a system running properly inside the setup you already have.

That is the whole team, and it is deliberate. A two-person shop cannot hide behind an account manager, which means you talk to whoever is doing the work, and the person who answers the phone is the person who can tell you whether your idea is a good one. Both numbers are on this page and both of us answer them.

What we run on

We run open-weight AI models on our own GPU hardware here in New Zealand. That is an unusual choice and it is a deliberate one: your business data does not get shipped offshore to somebody else's API, the cost of running it does not climb every time somebody uses it the way a per-token bill does, and when a model needs to behave differently we can change it rather than file a support ticket.

It also means we have had to learn the parts most consultancies never touch — where these models are unreliable, how to catch a plausible-looking wrong answer before it reaches an invoice, and what has to be checked by code rather than trusted to the model. That experience is the difference between a demo and something you can leave running.

How we work

We start with your actual day. Not an AI strategy — the specific jobs eating your week. If AI is the wrong tool for a problem, we will tell you that, because the alternative is building something you quietly stop using.

Small, bounded first job. One workflow, an agreed definition of what "working" means, and a price for it. You get something running and earning its keep before anyone commits to a larger programme — so you are never betting the business on a system you haven't watched work.

Nothing goes out the door on the model's word. Anything touching money, a customer or a legal document gets checked by code and, where it matters, reviewed by a person before it sends. We would rather a system asked you a question than confidently made something up.

You own what we build. The workflow is yours — no lock-in to a platform you can never leave, and no licence fee for the thing we built you. Running it does cost something: if it sits on your own hardware, that is your only ongoing cost and nothing comes to us; if you would rather run it on our GPUs, that is a straightforward monthly hosting charge. Compute is not cheap and we would rather say so up front than surprise you with it.

The proof

Quarvo is our own platform and it runs a real New Zealand engineering business every day — quotes out, invoices raised, bank transactions reconciled, wages and GST worked out, with an AI manager called Torq sitting across the whole thing and reporting what needs attention.

It is the honest answer to "have you done this before?", and you can look at it rather than take our word for it.

Talk to an engineer, not a salesperson

Ring or email either of us directly. You'll reach the person who'd actually build it — no gatekeeping, no discovery call before anyone technical shows up.
